Review: Clover Clamps

April 10, 2010

Clover Clamps $24.00 from Babeland.com

As I fingered the thin metal of the Clover Clamps I couldn’t help but scoff  from the initial impression it left. “How fucking cheap!” I exclaimed to Maverick who asked what my problem was.  Clover clamps are supposed to be the best for nipple torture due to their strong bite and tight hold, but from my initial impression I wasn’t sure if they would live up to the hype.

While the thin metal makes the clamps light-weight, it also makes it easier to bend the metal if you’re not careful. I really worry about this due to the chain that is attached to the clamps. When you press the sides in (think of a clothespin) to open the teeth there is a part of the opening mechanism that catches and lifts itself up on the chain. This not only creates a problem of possible bending, but makes the clamps difficult to open.  Had the hole that the chain is attached to been placed a few millimeters down it wouldn’t be a problem.

Once you manage to get the clamps open you’ll find that the tips feature rubber pads with nubs. The pads are not there to be your friend. The nubs on the pads insure a nice hold with no give and a strong bite. If you don’t have them positioned just so you may find yourself in a whole lot of pain. It definitely takes some experimentation to find out which position and angle works best for. For me, I found that the best position was the traditional approach from the bottom of the nipple.

The bite is strong and enhanced by the 11.5” long chain. I’m not sure how heavy it is, but it definitely adds some weight. The chain isn’t just there for looks and weight. Tugging on the chain causes the clamps to tighten. Personally I like to reverse the way the clamps are attached (from the top of the nipple not the bottom) and slip the chain through the o-ring of my collar. This takes a bit of work, but it allows less weight and hanging from the chain for a slightly better experience. I barely managed to squeeze the clamps through the 1”⌀ of the o-ring, so anything smaller than an inch won’t work.

The clamps open up to ½” but they are not adjustable and will clamp down tight on both large and small nipples. These are definitely not for beginners and should not be used if the wearer has a low pain tolerance or is breastfeeding. If the clamps are left on for a long period of time they can damage the nerve endings in the nipples, block ducts for breast-feeders, and cause skin swelling and discoloration. The general rule of thumb for all clamps is no longer than ten minutes at a time. Definitely be careful during removal as the pads have a tendency to stick to the skin.

Overall the clover clamps are worth it if you’re looking for some hardcore style nipple torture. My only problem with them as I stated was the cheap feel of the metal which may lead to bending and how it catches on the chain when you open them.
